Took an extended weekend and went for a short trip. Large collection of photos inside.
Original plan was to spend 3 nights at a campground, but with rain in the forecast I started to come up with a backup a plan.
For a short while I thought the rain was going to hold.
Hmm. Consulted my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and took a right at a fork in the road.
Good idea.
This road carved through the mountains following a river.
The mist pouring off the mountains was beautiful.
After that drive I arrived in a town with a cheap motel. After getting settled in I walked around a bit.
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.
Holy crap, a payphone!
Holy crapper, a gas lamp! In need of a wick at that.
Lighting store makes for a nice background.
Checking the weather I found out I made the right decision. Thunderstorms all night where I was going to camp, but the next day and night was set to be clear skies.
I’d set out early the next morning.

As always, fantastic shots. I’m from Pittsburgh, but we moved to FLA in 1980. I haven’t been back too many times, but I miss PA. It’s a beautiful place.
Seeing the road trip pictures from you and a few others makes me very excited for our December trip to Arkansas. We’re going up to work on our house in preparation for probably moving up there next year. We’ll be busting our butts working on the house, but I’ve requested to have a few days off for photo adventures.
Y’all can look forward to my bizarre pics from the road as we’ll have the dog and our two special needs cats in the car with us. The cats travel well; they love it, actually. But it’ll be an interesting drive.
